There is an increasing need and demand for therapists to understand the Neurodiversity Paradigm and to implement neurodiversity-affirming care in practice. Increasing numbers of clients are being diagnosed and/or self-identify with Autism and/or ADHD, but most therapists have had little (or no) training in accurately identifying and supporting these clients.
This presentation will provide an overview and introduction to the Neurodiversity Paradigm and neurodiversity-affirming care, with a focus on Autism and ADHD.
Participants will understand the Neurodiversity Paradigm and the principles of neurodiversity-affirming therapy. The presentation will cover common traits of Autism and ADHD and when therapists should refer clients for assessments.
Upon completion of this workshop, participants should be able to:

Name 2 principles of Neurodiversity-Affirming therapy
Name 2 common traits of Autism and 2 common traits of ADHD
Name 2 accommodations to support Autistic and ADHDer clients in therapy
identify at least 2 ways that intersectionalities related to race and gender impact both diagnosis and treatment of Autistic and ADHDer clients
